A Year In Chairmaking
Today marks my first twelve months as a full-time chairmaker - time flies when you’re faffing about trying to sharpen a spokeshave. It’s been fantastic to see so many of my chairs in different homes, and to meet their new owners, too.
Perhaps a highlight for me was visiting a new client in an unassuming house on a suburban Surrey street, which turned out to be packed with Arts & Crafts cabinetry of outstanding quality. Afraid my sales pitch went right out the window, as I spent the best part of twenty minutes reminding the owners of how good their furniture was before even mentioning my own…
Currently working on a contemporary version of my fanback chair - see photo for a sneak preview. A few more tweaks needed, but something very similar to this design should be available soon.
